About Worship Arts
The worship arts ministry at Global River Church is a family of artists. Though these artists vary widely in medium, style, age, and ethnicity we share a common mission. This threefold mission centers around intimacy, celebration and illumination.
First through our artistic expression we seek closer intimacy with the father Heart of God. “Draw close to God and He will draw close to you” – James 4:8. From this place of intimacy we receive inspiration, direction, provision, healing, power and authority. We receive the fruit of the Spirit which we ourselves are nourished by, enabling us to then nurture others. The benefit of being in God’s presence are innumerable.
The second focus of Worship Arts is celebration. We rejoice in who God is and remember the great things He has done. Throughout the bible, when people experienced God, they broke out in celebration. After God led the Israelites through the Red Sea, Miriam did a tambourine dance. David danced with all his might as he brought the Ark of the Covenant to the city. When we really understand how good God is, it is hard to either sit still or be quiet!
Finally, it is not enough just to enjoy God on our own. Jesus said “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” But in the Sermon on the Mount, He says to us: “You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before all men…” So with the gifts we receive from intimacy and the excitement and unity we receive in celebration, we must advance the kingdom of God. Whether on the streets of Wilmington, NC, in the abject poverty of Mozambique, or amidst the socio-political tension of the Palestinian sections of Jerusalem, we must display lives as well as art that express the love and mercy of God and the good news of Jesus Christ.
Our vision is to foster creative worship the touches the heart of God and fills the earth with His Glory.
We would like to see:
- The creativity and excellence of the church change the culture.
- The youth being equipped to advance the Kingdom of God.
- Christians of all ages and backgrounds expressing their love for God with freedom.
- Christian artists grow in intimacy and skill.
