He said to them, “Go into all the world. Preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved…Here are the miraculous signs that those who believe will do. They will cast out demons in My name, speak with new languages…Place hands on the sick and heal them.” (Mark 16:15 – 18)
The Destiny Model of Prayer is used by trained prayer ministers to enable people who are hurting and wounded to receive freedom from oppression from the lies that are believed and from the influences of darkness. Proverbs says that, as a man believes in his heart, so it is within, whether it is true or false. 1 Peter 5 says to take a firm stand against the devil.
James 5:16 says confess your sins one to another and pray for each other, that you might be healed (physical, emotional, wounded heart). This is different from 1 John 1:9 – confess your sins to Jesus and He forgives all unrighteousness. Jesus does not need help from man for forgiving sin. Healing, however, is a sign of believers (Mark 16:15 – 18). James 4:7 - 8 says: ‘So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.’
Forgiveness and confession, when verbalized to witnesses, are powerful for healing our wounded and broken hearts. You will have what you say; life and death are in your tongue. Let all be established by two or three witnesses. Who is eligible to receive prayer ministry?
This ministry is offered free of charge to anyone who is ready to walk out a lifestyle change. Ministry sessions are by appointment only. People who are heavily medicated are not normally accepted, because the body and soul are normally unresponsive. Those who are battling with alcohol and drug addictions should have been drug or alcohol free for at least two weeks prior to receiving ministry, unless approved by the Senior Pastor. Children under 18 years of age and pregnant women require specific pastoral approval prior to ministry. The person receiving ministry must meet the following requirements:
Prayer ministry is a balanced healing ministry based on what the Lord did and his command for us to go and do likewise! Part of this ministry is confronting the darkness in a person’s life. Equally, if not more importantly, is what the person truly believes. This is often the doorway for darkness to remain and negatively influence a person’s life. It can hinder intimacy and truth in Jesus. Prayer ministry does not focus on demons and is not a power trip by the ministry team exercising authority over the demonic realm, although our authority is clear (Luke 10) and they are dealt with. The focus is on Jesus and on His Kingdom, not on Satan and his minions. It is an exciting and wonderful time when the demonic influences in a person’s life are broken, where lies are identified and truth is spoken, because of the great name of Jesus. Although general prayer can be utilized effectively at any time, by anyone, prayer ministry is led by the Holy Spirit and any hurts and lies are dealt with. It is important to understand that Christians cannot be demon possessed. They are blood bought (1 Corinthians 6:20), but they can be under the influence of darkness. We believe in the ‘sozo’ anointing. ‘Sozo’ is used more than 110 times in the New Testament and is a Greek verb meaning ‘to be saved or rescued’. It means to be ‘healed, saved and delivered’ all in one! Amen! Jesus prayed for all these gifts (John 10:10; 1 John 3:8).
Prayer ministry sessions must be booked in advance. The prayee must be prepared to wait a few weeks, as the sessions get booked up quickly in advance. Emergency prayer ministry can be done at the discretion of the Senior Pastor. Usually the sessions take place on a Monday at 10 am. Sessions can take anywhere from 3 – 6 hours, depending upon the prayee. It can be emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally draining. Often people feel as though they have had ‘spiritual surgery’ and there is a ‘recovery’ period afterwards. This feeling is normal! You will be asked to sign a release form to not bring legal action against individuals or the ministry for this free ministry.
Prayer ministry takes place in a quiet location, free from distractions. The team usually consists of a Team Leader, and a Support Team Member. At our discretion, sometimes an intercessor and / or team member in training will attend the session as well. All team members have completed training sessions at the church, and have been released by the Global River Church leadership for this ministry. The team may consist of a male and a female team member, but same gender teams may conduct sessions to the appropriate gender. At least two weeks prior to prayer ministry, the person will be asked to contemplatively journal as the Holy Spirit leads them, and to create a list of people to forgive (Matt 18:15 – 35), and a list of sins to confess (James 5:13 – 18).
A willingness to totally surrender to Jesus is required before ministry is scheduled:
Jesus warns in Matthew that when darkness is cast out and if the house is not filled, the darkness will try to return with seven worse spirits. Lordship surrender to Christ is a must before this ministry. A desire for life style changes is necessary, no turning back to worldliness to open doors again. Being filled by the Holy Spirit and asking the Father for this gift (Luke 11:13) will occur during the ministry. The operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12) are part of this ministry. The Holy Spirit leads in truth and the truth sets us free (John 14; John 8).
Our desire for this ministry is to see God’s people set free from the hurt and brokenness of life. Jesus said, ‘The devil came to steal, kill and destroy. I have come to give life in all fullness.’ (John 10:10). Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Truth is freedom (John 8:32, 36). If you would like to give a love offering, we use this to bring others to the ministry who can’t afford to come and we do conferences and training to release this ministry to other churches. You can make checks payable to: GRC and mark it for ‘Prayer ministry’.
Blessings in Christ,
